Veterans Memorial Community Center
las vegas, nv
Discription:
This “memorial” is much different than traditional memorials. The property and the building is in fact a City of Las Vegas community leisure center and is operated as such. However at some point signage (some permanent, some semi-permanent) has been installed identifying the property as the “Veterans Memorial Community Center,” and the “Veterans Memorial Leisure Service Center.” There is also an adjacent “Veterans Memorial Park.” Because this descriptive information is being collected during the 2020 coronavirus situation, the building itself is closed to the public. It is possible there are more appropriate memorial designations inside the building.

History:
As a leisure service center, the building houses classrooms, a dance studio, a fitness center, a gymnasium, and an adjacent swimming pool. Apparently, the “official” name is Veterans Memorial Community Center, initially named by former City Councilwoman Lynette McDonald in honor of her father who was a veteran. However, neither name appears on signage.
