SA-2 Guideline
nellis air force base
Discription:
The SA-2 Guideline here is a fixed launcher, medium-to-high altitude radar-guided surface-to-air missile that forged the backbone of Soviet air defense from the 1960s through the 1980s. At its peak, the Soviets maintained nearly 1,000 SA-2 sites, comprised of specialized radar and six missile launchers. Following the first-ever downing of an American U-2 reconnaissance plane in 1960, the system rapidly proliferated to militaries across the world. It was used in the Vietnam War and Desert Storm War. It had a maximum range of 18.4-31.3 NM and was first deployed in 1957. It had a maximum altitude of 88,500-98,400 feet. It was exported to 35 countries, including North Korea, Vietnam, Egypt and Syria.
