The SA-13 Gopher was built as a successor to the SA-9 Gaskin mobile surface-to-air-missile system. The Gopher is an MT-LB armored vehicle modified to carry a four-canister missile launcher. A simple range radar is mounted on the SA-13 launcher to maximize its detection and engagement capability. Built by the USSR, it has a maximum speed of 38 mph, and a range of 300 miles. Its missiles are operable at 10,000 feet. It is operated by about 15 countries, including Cuba, India, and Russia.

History:

Nellis AFB is home to and displays several domestic and foreign military vehicles and weapons. The U.S. Air Force Warfare Center at Nellis reports directly to the Air Combat Command. The center was founded Sept. 1, 1966, as the U.S. Air Force Tactical Fighter Weapons Center. It was later renamed the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center in October, 2005. The Mission: The USAFWC conducts warfighter-centric live and virtual operational test and evaluation, tactics development, and advanced training to optimize Air Force capabilities and prepare airmen for joint, all domain combat operations.
