History:

The Mormon Battalion was a part of the U.S. Army that built roads and outposts along the way from Salt Lake City, Utah, through Nevada to San Diego, California. The trail was established by the Mormon Battalion, and the route was later taken by Capt. John C. Fremont, who explored the West through Utah, California and Nevada. Streets and towns in Nevada and California are named for him.
