History:
The lodge was founded in 1946. In 1938 Transcontinental and Western Air Lines (later Trans World Airlines, TWA) began serving Clark County, flying into Bullock Field in Boulder City. The airline felt Boulder City would be a more lucrative market than nearby Las Vegas. TWA built the current BPOE building as its terminal and used it as such until 1949 when the company moved to Las Vegas. In 1958 the BPOE purchased the building and made it it’s home, calling it the “Friendliest Lodge by a Dam Site,” in reference to nearby Hoover Dam. The lodge raises money each year and donates to various non-profits including the Nevada State Veterans Home. The lodge offers members a place to meet with friends and socialize on a daily basis, but the group’s main focus is on community and charity for veterans, local students, and “supporting the flag.” When it comes to serving veterans, the Elks have a long and storied tradition of being there when they are needed most. The needs of military members and returning veterans have continued to change, and the Elks have adapted to those needs remaining an ever-present ally to those who have served the country.
