History:

Freedom Park is located inside the gates of Nellis AFB and is home to many military memorials. The Mig-21 Fished on display is a second-generation Soviet fighter that entered service in the late 1950s and saw action in the 1960s and 1970s in the Middle East and Vietnam. It is the most manufactured supersonic fighter in the world, with more than 10,000 produced in the USSR alone. A Mach 2 combat aircraft, it was licensed-produced in several nations, including China. It has a maximum speed of 1,400 mph, a range of approximately 1,000 NM, and is armed with 1 x 23 or 30mm cannon up to 4 x AAM among other weapons. It remains operated by more than 40 nations, including North Korea, Cuba, China, Syria, and India. The U.S. Air Force Warfare Center at Nellis reports directly to the Air Combat Command. The center was founded on Sept. 1, 1966, as the U.S. Air Force Tactical Fighter Weapons Center. It was later renamed the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center in October 2005. The Mission: The USAFWC conducts warfighter-centric live and virtual operational test and evaluation, tactics development, and advanced training to optimize Air Force capabilities and prepare airmen for joint, all domain combat operations.
