Discription:

The front of the main portion of the memorial consists of four large engraved pieces of black granite. The pieces are individually engraved: “Homeland, Family, Patriot, Family.” Homeland includes a depiction of a Nevada State flag; Family depicts a family of a husband, wife, their young son and daughter, shown in silhouette with the image of the husband much lighter as if not fully present; Patriot depicts the U.S. flag raising at Iwo Jima during WWII; Sacrifice depicts a Gold Star banner. The rear side of the granite pieces includes the engraved words, “Gold Star Memorial Monument, A tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who sacrificed a loved one for our freedom.”

Two of the granite pieces are arranged and sculpted showing an opening that features the outline of an individual giving a military salute. The area around the monument includes two granite benches. One is engraved with the words, “The Builders Association, Paradiso Communities” and includes an engraved logo of the Nevada Military Support Alliance. Engraving on the other bench includes the words, “Freedom is not free. To honor all Gold Star families and relatives,” then continues to explain the meaning behind the words of the memorial itself: “Homeland, the heritage, and patriotism of the State of Nevada is depicted in the first panel. The great seal for the Silver State of Nevada representing all of Nevada’s heritage.” – Family, represents our loss borne by our Gold Star families reaching out for one another as if the family member is there but they are not. Patriot represents the inspiration and courage of our armed forces.
