Hero Bio:

William P. Wuyovich was born in Rieka, Montenegro, December 18, 1884. The date he came to the United States is not known. He was working at National, Nevada, when he registered in accordance with the Selective Service Regulations. He entered the service March 19, 1918, going to Camp Lewis where he was placed in 23d Company 166th Depot Brigade, and on May 1st, was transferred to Company A, 362d Infantry. On July 6, 1918, he sailed for France with the 91st Division. The 91st Division took part in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive which was launched on September 26th.

On October 4th, the second phase of the Argonne battle was started, and it was on this date that Private Wuyovich was slightly wounded. The battle line at this time extended from Fresnes-en-Woevre to the Argonne. On the 31st of December he was promoted to Private, 1st Class, and returned to the United States on April 15, 1919. Having contracted tuberculosis from exposure and hardships he passed away on November 30, 1919, at the Whipple Barracks, Prescott, Arizona, and was buried at Rock Springs, Wyoming.

A friend has said of him, “He was always a good boy and conducted himself well at all times.” He leaves a father, Peter Wuyovich, a mother Yove Wuyovich, a brother, Luke and a sister, Eve, all of Rieka, Montenegro. The people of this State are proud to have had such a representative in the World War.
