Hero Bio:

Wilbourne Stock was born in Canyonville, Oregon, July 12, 1896. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Stock of that place. In 1915 he came to Nevada, locating at Mina in Mineral County. There he worked in the mines two years, after which he moved to Candelaria. In all he followed the pursuit of mining for three years in Nevada, part of which time he was leasing. On October 4th, 1918, while awaiting his call to the colors, he was married to Miss Rachel Stewart in Candelaria. The young couple had gone to Oregon, to visit his parents when the call came on October 15th. He reported at Roseburg, Oregon, and immediately left for Reno, Nevada, to report at the State University.

But he was not to serve his country as he wished. He reached the University on October 17th, and contracted influenza just after his arrival. The disease developed into pneumonia, causing his death on October 27, 1918. He left behind him his wife, Mrs. Rachel Stock-Andrews of Minden, Nevada, and his aged parents in Oregon, and since his death, a baby boy has arrived to carry on the name of his father. Fate prevented him from giving active service to the Flag but Mineral County is proud of the one who went from its borders, gladly welcoming the opportunity of doing his share.
