Hero Bio:

Walter G. Swedberg was born at Chicago, Illinois, October 13, 1891. He came west to Nevada, taking up his home at Beatty, Nye County. While there the call of the Country to arms reached him, and he went with a Nye County contingent to Camp Lewis, Washington, September 6, 1917. At Camp Lewis, he was assigned to Company L, 362d Infantry, 91st Division. He went over seas with them July 6, 1918, and was promoted to the rank of Private, First Class, on August 6th following. On September 12, 1918, the 91st Division was in reserve at St. Mihiel when that sector fell before the American advance.

On the 26th of the month the division entered the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. It advanced northward with the line, capturing Epinonville, Eclisfontaine, and Gesnes, but was compelled to fall back from the latter town the same day of its capture (September 28th) when support to right and left failed. That day Private Walter Swedberg was killed in action during the gallant advance of his regiment. He fell as only a hero can, charging upon the enemy.

He left surviving him his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Swedberg, 3138 N. Pauline Street, Chicago, Illinois, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. W. F. Edwards, Mrs. H. E. Weig, Robert E. Swedberg and Roy a Swedberg, all of Chicago, Illinois.
