Philip A. Malo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arsine Malo, was born in Carson City, Nevada, on November 5th, 1895. There he grew up to young manhood and received his education. On October 31, 1914, he enlisted in the G. S. R.—transferred on December 13, 1914, to 68th Company, Coast Artillery Corps, and was stationed at Fort Kamehameha, Territory of Hawaii; transferred on November 27, 1918, to 51st Company, Coast Artillery Corps, Fort Scott, California; transferred on January 20, 1919, to 9th Company Coast Artillery Corps, Fort Funston, California, and served in this Company until May 13, 1919, when he was furloughed to the Reserve.
On June 4, 1920, he was discharged from the reserve. When he went home he was suffering from tuberculosis, contracted while in the Service. In a short time he entered a Government Hospital in California, but becoming homesick, returned to Carson, and there he passed away on November 13, 1920. He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Arsine Malo; his sisters, Mrs. J. R. Wood and Mrs. W. J. McKeough; and his brothers, Rodolph Malo, Carson City, Nevada, and Oscar Malo, of Virginia City, Nevada. Carson City people felt deeply the loss of the sunny hearted boy, born in their midst. He rests in a soldier’s grave on the edge of the town where he spent so many happy days.
