Lawrence Broe was born in Denmark, October 1893, and there spent the early years of his life. In March 1914, he came to America and settled in Reno, Nevada, making his home with his uncle, Robert Nelson. Here he enlisted in the U. S. Army with the Coast Artillery Corps, and while in the service spent some time in Honolulu. After the expiration of
this enlistment he returned to Reno and there took up his trade as a painter.

On October 3, 1917, he re-entered the Service, going as a member of a contingent of young men from Washoe County to Camp Lewis, Washington. He stayed there in training until March 1, 1918, when he went overseas as a member of Company A, 163d Infantry, 41st Division, with which division he served until May 14, 1918. He was then transferred to Company I ,101st Infantry, 26th Division.

This division was serving on the Marne, July 10th, 1918, when the last German offensive was halted by our troops, and during the advance in which Bouresches, Vaux and Vauxcastile were captured. The division was withdrawn from the fight on the 26th of July. Broe was still serving with his regiment when it was in the St. Mihiel Sector, September 7th to September 12th. It was during the allied advance at Bois de Consenvoye that Lawrence Broe was killed in action, October 24, 1918. He was buried in Grave 188, Sec. 69, Plot 4, Argonne American Cemetery No. 1232, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Meuse, France.

He is survived by his father, who lives in Denmark, and by his uncle, Robert Nelson, 47 West 10th Street, Reno, Nevada.
