Joshua M. Battin was born in Millvieu, Pennsylvania, in February 1889. Volunteered from Schurz, Nevada—where he had been in the employ of L. Little since July 1916, as a truck driver—December 14, 1917. Served in 823 Aero Squadron until his death. Died of disease, March 24, 1918. Person notified of the death, Edwin P. Battin, father, Millvieu, Pennsylvania. “He was thoroughly dependable, reliable, and honest in every respect,” said Mr. Little. “He was far above the average boy.” Private Battin’s name is on the Roll of Honor of Mineral County.
