Hero Bio:
Private James Siri (Giaccomo Siri) was born at St. Augustine, Genoa, Italy, June, 1894, and was the only son of Ferdinanda Giovanni Siri and Margheritta Pesce Siri. He came to the United States as soon as he was old enough to travel and settled in this State. He often said, “I like Nevada so well that I have made up my mind to make my home here in White Pine County, forever, if I have my say.” He was working for the Adams McGill Company of Ely at Sunnyside as a vaquero when he registered for the draft, and as Sunnyside is in Nye County he entered the Service from that county on October 6, 1917.
James Siri was first assigned to the 348th Field Artillery and later transferred to Company C, 26th Infantry, 1st Division. He went over-seas December 15, 1917. Was killed in action during the battle at Berzy-le-Sec, Marne Counter-Offensive, July 21, 1918. He was well thought of, making friends wherever he went, and his name will ever be remembered and honored by the people of the State of Nevada. Surviving his are his mother, Margheritta Siri of St. Augustine, Italy and two sisters, Ceresa Siri and Stella G. Guistine, Genova, Italy.
