Hero Bio:

George Edward Mollart was born in Aspen, Colorado, April 11th, 1899. He was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward W. Mollart, now residents of Artesia, Lyon County, Nevada. When he was seven years of age the family moved to Buckskin, Nevada, later taking up their residence at Artesia. There George was raised, save for the time spent in high school at Yerington, where he made a splendid record as a student. On the 12th of June, 1918, he volunteered his services in the army. He was but nineteen years of age at the time, but strong and well built. Having been assigned to Company G, 5th Engineer Training Regiment, at Fort McDowell, California, he accompanied the regiment when it was sent east immediately after his enlistment.

They were stationed at Camp Humphreys, Virginia. On July 16th he was transferred to Company M of the same regiment. While on escort duty there, his regiment was sent overseas, and he was then transferred, this time to Company M. 4th Engineer Training Regiment (July 25th). He continued in that service, being with a detail which acted as escort to new recruits from Accontik Station to Camp Humphrey, when he was stricken with measles. A relapse followed, and having contracted empyema, he was removed from the Base Hospital at Camp Humphreys to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D. C. He died there thirty-six hours after his removal, July 28th, 1918. His remains, accompanied by an escort, arrived in Yerington at midnight, August 2d, and was met by the home guard and a large number of friends. Lyon County paid special honor to the first of her sons to make the supreme sacrifice by attending en masse at the military funeral on the 3d. He was buried in the Odd Fellows’ Cemetery. Besides his parents, three brothers, Warren, Richard, and Kenneth, and a sister, Eleanor, survive him.
