Hero Bio:

Alvin P. Carlsen was the only child of Niels and Elsie Carlsen, since deceased, of Centerfield, Utah, where Alvin was born on the 9th of June 1895. When he was eight years old his father died, and bis uncle, J. P. Carlsen, took the boy into his home in Mayfield, Utah. Alvin lived with his uncle until he had finished the public schools, then went to Nevada to do ranch work. Each summer he worked on the ranches near East Ely, White Pine County, and each winter returned to Mayfield to visit his uncle. December 12, 1917, when the war broke out, he volunteered his services to his country and entered Company E, 24th Engineer Regiment.

Thereafter he served at Fort Douglas and Camp Dix until his regiment was ready to sail, which it did about
the middle of February 1918. The period of fighting was passed through without mishap for him, and after the
Armistice had been signed he crossed the frontier with the Army of Occupation. His regiment was stationed at Wasserbiltz in the Duchy of Luxemburg. While serving on guard duty there he contracted influenza, which led to his death on the 27th of December, 1918, in the hospital at Toul. Although he had divided his time between his work in Nevada and his visits to his uncle in Utah, the people of White Pine feel that one of their sons has been taken
from them, and his many friends there join with the uncle, who reared him, in mourning his loss.
